The Waffle Hour.

In the afternoon, the heavy heart-shaped iron heats on the stove. Mix aromatic cardamom batter, bake crisp golden waffles, and heap them with farm cream, wild berries, and Gudbrandsdalen brown cheese alongside the farmers who keep this valley tradition alive.

The day

In Gudbrandsdalen, the waffle iron is not brought out for show; it is the universal rhythm of hospitality that has welcomed travelers arriving at farm gates for generations. Gather around our worn farmhouse kitchen table as the sweet aroma of freshly ground cardamom, cultured buttermilk, and melting butter fills the room.

Our hosts guide you in blending the family batter and tending the cast-iron heart presses. Learn the regional tradition of pairing piping-hot waffles with sour cream, tart berries picked from nearby slopes, and shaved slices of authentic local brunost from neighboring dairy friends. When the weather is on our side, the whole thing moves out to the terrace, and the waffles come hot off the iron with the valley and Lake Mjøsa opening wide below the table. All told, it is two and a half unhurried hours of conversation, steaming dark roast coffee, and genuine Norwegian everyday life.

The heart iron warms the kitchen through every season. Summer brings sunlit patio breezes; winter turns it into a candlelit haven after coming in from the snow.
